Rationale
I made a list of reasons this site exists.
This site exists for various reasons:
- I became mildly tired throughout terms making worksheets and materials after being periodically time-poor.
- I dislike Google Classroom and Google Documents
- Accessible material online didn't exist at the level of quality required to encompass material expected of the Australian Curriculum after v9 came out.
- Wanted something usable by a teacher for teaching and by a student for homework, self-study and catchup.
- Finding online resources all in different formats like pdf/word/slides/videos/pdf slides/programs/web-sites that didn't let me modify them or had a paywall.
- Knowing teacherpayteachers exists.
- Colleagues hadn't used
before. - Wanting a centralised place that was easy to manage, didn't have one million interface buttons with students commenting and sending things.
- Wanting material that could quickly be converted into different formats with version control (instead of a super G-Drive with 20 years of duplicate worksheets).
- I had uninterrupted time to make material for students. (During a holiday!)
- Someone nicely asked me to make a term's worth of lesson plans that needed to be hand-typed and contained 900 exercises with equations for a screen-reader.
- Wanting to reduce the textbook budget to use for other things in future years
- I got quoted 70k to print about 1600 school booklets, and 12k to buy new textbooks.
- Textbooks had terms of use and online subscriptions which made it difficult to figure out what was allowed and what wasn't in terms of distributing to students.
